When there is nothing left to wrap
Everyone has a last-minute gift on the list: a teacher, a hairdresser, a cousin who is hard to buy for. A printed gift certificate promising an hour of babysitting, a home-cooked dinner or a set sum for a favourite shop is the quickest answer, and it looks far better than a note scribbled on a card.
What you can type
- Heading. The big line defaults to a holiday greeting, but you can change it, for example “A Gift For You”.
- To and From. Names of the recipient and the giver.
- Amount or gift. A money amount or a promise such as “One home-cooked dinner”.
- Signature. Draw it on screen so the giver’s name appears in their own hand.
Making it feel like a real present
Print on thick card, trim the edges and tuck it into an envelope or a small gift box. The page is 8.5 inches wide and 4 inches tall, which fits a standard DL envelope when folded once and a long business envelope when left flat.
A word on promises
If the certificate is for a business, say what it can be spent on and when it expires. If it is a personal promise between friends, keep it simple and set a date so it does not fade into a forgotten favour.
For the person who has everything
Gift certificates for dinners, babysitting nights and handmade favours are among the nicest presents because they promise time rather than things. A smiling Santa and a sack of presents make the page feel festive even when the gift is only a promise, and it slips neatly into a stocking.
What each box is for
The Heading box lets you rename the gift, for example A Night In, Free Haircut or Garden Help. To and From carry the names. Amount can hold money, such as GBP 25, or a plain description such as One Pizza Night. With a logo added, a small business can use the page as a gift card.
Wrapping and delivery
Print on thin card or glossy photo paper for a gift-card feel, fold the page in half and tie it with ribbon. If you e-mail the PDF to a relative far away, ask them to print it at home or keep it on their phone.
