Choose the picture before the words

The photograph is the heart of this first birthday invitation. Look for a clear face, gentle light and a simple background. A portrait taken during an ordinary happy moment can feel more personal than a formal sitting. Leave space around the head because the uploaded image fills the fixed frame. The illustrated sample is a demonstration; replace it with your own photograph.

A first birthday invitation that feels like your family

A first birthday can be a small family lunch or a room full of friends. Let the invitation reflect the day you have planned, rather than trying to make it sound bigger. The portrait and the child's name provide the emotional centre; the rest of the text should make attending simple. Consider whether the baby will be happiest with a short visit, a quieter arrival or a clear cake time. If grandparents or relatives are travelling, send accommodation details separately. You can keep the card warm and uncluttered while giving each guest the extra information they need in a personal message.

Plan around a small guest of honour

A short celebration window can be easier for babies and their parents. Write the actual arrival and finish times rather than "afternoon", and choose a moment that works around your child's usual routine. The extra note is useful for parking, buggy access or a simple "Join us for cake and cuddles."

Little words for a very big first

Use these ideas for your card or the message you send with it. Adapt longer examples into a short phrase for the form's limited text fields.

Warm and simple

One wonderful year of loving you. Please join us to celebrate Isla's first birthday with cake, cuddles and our favourite people.

A sunshine celebration

Our little sunshine is turning one! Come share a bright afternoon, a little birthday cake and a lot of happy memories.

A small family party

Twelve months, countless smiles and one much-loved little person. Join our family for a gentle first birthday celebration at home.

Words for a very first celebration

Try: "A whole year of loving you. Please join us to celebrate our little one turning one." For a shorter version, let the photograph speak and use "One wonderful year". Once your details are in place, inspect the photo crop in the PDF preview. Make sure the face is fully visible and the name belongs to your child rather than the example.

Before choosing the final portrait

  • Use a photograph you are happy to share with these recipients.
  • Leave room around the baby's face for the frame crop.
  • Check that the uploaded image replaces the sample illustration.
  • Compare the photo and the name in the generated PDF.
  • Print a sample to judge skin tones on your own paper.

Give the photo a proper print check

An image can look bright on a phone and darker on card. Inspect the photograph in the PDF preview first, then print a single example using your intended paper and printer settings. The photo fills a fixed frame, so check the edges for a hand, hat or part of the face you want to keep visible. If the crop feels tight, choose an image with more space around the subject. The card is 5 by 7 inches; the two-up options preserve that size on landscape A4 or US Letter. Avoid fit-to-page when printing, and choose card stock your printer supports.

Your first birthday photo card, explained

Do I have to upload a photograph?
No. A demonstration illustration appears until you provide your own photo. For a personal first birthday invitation, replace it with your child's picture and review the crop before downloading the finished card.

Can I mention a cake time separately?
Yes. Use the short note for a line such as "Cake at 3 PM." Keep the main time field for the visiting window, so guests can tell when to arrive and when the celebration ends.
