This card has one important job

A moving announcement tells friends and family where to reach you. Give the household or sender name, the date the address takes effect and the full new address. The graphic postal edges establish the purpose immediately, while the house illustration adds a little warmth.

Treat the address as information people will use later

A change-of-address card may sit on a desk or in an address book long after the move. Write the address in the form you would want someone to copy onto an envelope, including the unit, building name or country when needed. The effective date tells recipients when to start using it, which is useful if you are sending the news before moving day. Keep your family or sender name recognisable to the people receiving the card. If you have a new phone number too, use the contact line for that practical update. This card works best when its friendly greeting supports a clear postal message rather than hiding it.

Write the address as it should appear on post

Use the first address line for the house or flat number and street. Use the second for the remaining town, region, postcode and country details that your recipients need. Read it against a reliable document rather than from memory. If your building uses an entry name or unit number, make sure it is included.

New-address messages with a personal touch

Use these ideas for your card or the message you send with it. Adapt longer examples into a short phrase for the form's limited text fields.

Warm and familiar

Same people, a brand-new doorstep. Please update your address book and come visit when we have found the kettle and unpacked the mugs.

Short and practical

We have moved! Our new address takes effect from 1 July. Keep in touch with the Harper family at the details below.

For a fresh beginning

A new place to make memories and a fresh address to share. We are looking forward to welcoming familiar faces into our next chapter.

Keep in touch after the move

The contact field can hold a phone number or email address; the note is a place for "We cannot wait to welcome you." There is no party time to fill in because this card shares news rather than an event. Send it directly to people who need the address. If you are inviting them over to celebrate, the housewarming template has the event fields ready.

An address-book accuracy check

  • Compare the house or flat number with a reliable document.
  • Include the postcode and country where recipients need them.
  • Use the date the new address should start being used.
  • Check any updated phone or email contact.
  • Send the card directly to people who need your address.

Make the postal details stand out in the final copy

The bold greeting, postal stripes and original house illustration introduce the news, while the lower address area is deliberately easy to find. Put the street on the first line and the remaining location details on the second. If your address is long, review the PDF and shorten only wording that is not needed for accurate delivery. The single 5 by 7-inch file is useful for email, and the two-card landscape formats provide printed copies for posting. Use actual-size printing and trim to the marks. Keep a copy yourself so you can check what you have shared when updating other address records.

A few practical moving-card answers

Can I announce the move before moving day?
Yes. Use the effective-date field to say when the new address should be used. Check that the address is confirmed and make the timing clear so recipients do not send post there too early.

Can I invite people to a party on this card?
The moving announcement is arranged around address news rather than a party schedule. For a gathering, use the housewarming invitation, which includes the event time, venue details and reply fields.
