Create Laundry Routine Checklist
A four-stage laundry checklist that makes sorting, washing, drying and putting away visible as separate tasks.
The washing machine cycle is only one part of getting laundry finished. This four-stage page separates sorting, washing, drying and putting away, leaving room for load notes so the final steps do not disappear behind the next basket.

Make each load identifiable from the start
Use the sorting card to describe the work before a load begins: checking pockets, grouping the items you intend to wash and reading their care labels. The note field can name the load or explain a household-specific reminder. Avoid entries so general that nobody can tell which basket they refer to. If several loads are being handled, use a separate checklist or clearly named sections rather than mixing their progress. A visible load name makes the sheet easier to hand over when someone else takes the next stage.
Let garment instructions lead the actual process
The washing and drying cards are places for your chosen actions, not preset instructions for every fabric. Read the relevant garment and equipment guidance when deciding what to do. A row such as check drying instructions is deliberately different from telling every item to go through the same process. Add a short reference if a particular load needs attention, but keep detailed care decisions outside the limited note field. The template does not determine settings or assess fabrics; it helps you remember the steps you have selected.
Treat putting away as its own finish line
Laundry often remains unfinished after the items are dry. The final card gives folding, hanging, pairing and putting away their own checkboxes. Adapt those actions to the way your household stores clothing. If the load is handed to another person, a brief note can say which drawer or room is involved. Tick only the stage that is actually finished. Before starting a new round, clear the old completion marks and change any load notes so the next page describes the current washing rather than yesterday's progress.
Starting entries for your laundry routine checklist
- Sort: check pockets / school clothing load.
- Dry: read the selected garments' drying instructions.
- Finish: pair socks and put clothes away / bedroom drawers.
Before you use the finished page
- Give the load a recognisable name.
- Check the actual garment care instructions.
- Separate washing from drying progress.
- Include the final putting-away tasks.
- Clear old ticks before the next round.
Make the layout your own
Use Load sample data for editable example entries, or begin with blank lines for handwriting. You can rename the page, add a name and period, edit section headings, and add or remove rows. The editor supports up to eight sections and eighty rows. Ticked items are printed as complete; blank boxes remain available for a pen. Short entries keep the page comfortable to read, while longer lists continue onto additional pages with repeated headings.
Print a copy you will actually use
Choose A4 or US Letter before generating the PDF, then use the matching paper in your printer. Print at Actual size or 100 percent. The signature palette gives this design its own character; soft neutral and black-and-white options are available for a quieter or lower-ink print. Preview the names, column contents and page breaks before making several copies. The website logo appears on browsing previews only, and your printable checklist has no TemplatesInn watermark.
Questions about this laundry routine checklist
Can I change the four stage names?
Yes. Edit the section headings and rows. The four-card structure stays in place, but the wording can match your own household process.
Does this template recommend machine settings?
No. Settings depend on the actual garments and equipment. Use their instructions; the checklist records your chosen routine and load reminders.
