Create Decluttering Checklist
Sort a space into keep, donate, sell and recycle actions, with an editable next step for each decision.
Clearing a space involves decisions and destinations. This checklist gives keep, donate, sell and recycle actions separate cards, with a next-step note for each item so sorting does not simply move a pile from one corner to another.

Choose a small space with a clear stopping point
Name the drawer, shelf or area in the page title or period field before you begin. A defined space makes the session easier to finish and keeps the item list concrete. Enter things you actually encounter rather than an ambitious catalogue of the whole home. The four cards help you record decisions, but their headings are editable if another set suits your project. Keep the decision and the physical next step connected: keeping an item is only helpful when you also know where it is supposed to go.
Make destinations specific enough to act on
The note beside an item can turn donate into choose a collection point, sell into photograph and list, or keep into return to the study shelf. Use whichever detail removes the next obstacle. Check requirements for the destination you choose rather than assuming every item can go into the same collection. The page does not determine resale value, donation acceptance or local recycling rules. It gives your own decisions a visible place and helps distinguish a decision that has been made from an action that has actually been completed.
Finish the movement before beginning another area
A sorted pile can still be unfinished work. Use the checkbox for the action described on the row and make that action explicit. If photograph the side table and hand it over to the buyer are separate stages, give them separate rows or update the entry when the first stage is done. The page notes can hold the next collection date or another reminder. Review what is still waiting before opening a new cupboard, so the checklist supports a finished space rather than a growing set of temporary holding piles.
Starting entries for your decluttering checklist
- Keep: reference books / return to study shelf.
- Donate: spare mugs / check the chosen collection point.
- Sell: unused side table / photograph and write the listing.
Before you use the finished page
- Define the area for this session.
- Record actual items rather than broad categories alone.
- Give each decision a physical destination.
- Check the rules for your chosen collection route.
- Finish outstanding movements before expanding the project.
Make the layout your own
Use Load sample data for editable example entries, or begin with blank lines for handwriting. You can rename the page, add a name and period, edit section headings, and add or remove rows. The editor supports up to eight sections and eighty rows. Ticked items are printed as complete; blank boxes remain available for a pen. Short entries keep the page comfortable to read, while longer lists continue onto additional pages with repeated headings.
Print a copy you will actually use
Choose A4 or US Letter before generating the PDF, then use the matching paper in your printer. Print at Actual size or 100 percent. The signature palette gives this design its own character; soft neutral and black-and-white options are available for a quieter or lower-ink print. Preview the names, column contents and page breaks before making several copies. The website logo appears on browsing previews only, and your printable checklist has no TemplatesInn watermark.
Questions about this decluttering checklist
Can I use different sorting categories?
Yes. Rename the section headings and replace the rows. You can use categories such as repair, return or give to someone when they fit your project.
Should I tick an item as soon as I decide its category?
Choose the meaning that fits the written action. If the row says deliver to the donation point, a decision alone does not complete that row. Clear wording makes progress easier to read.
