Give the evening its own invitation

A rehearsal dinner has a different purpose from the wedding day: a chance for the closest people to settle in, talk and spend time together. The restrained layout reflects that smaller gathering. Use the names of the couple as the focal point and a simple opening such as "Please join us for dinner on the eve of our wedding."

One table, a smaller guest list and a clearer schedule

The dinner before a wedding often brings together people with different roles in the next day's ceremony. A clear invitation keeps those roles from becoming confusing. Use this card to invite the dinner guests to the meal itself, then give rehearsal instructions separately to the wedding party. If dinner follows immediately after a rehearsal, say so to the people attending both, but keep the printed arrival time useful for someone coming only to eat. A restaurant booking may also need a precise room name. Confirm that detail with your host before entering the venue, especially when several parties are using the same building.

Separate the rehearsal from the meal

If only some dinner guests attend the ceremony rehearsal, avoid suggesting everyone must arrive at the rehearsal time. Put the dinner's arrival time on this card and share rehearsal instructions directly with the people involved. For a restaurant, include the booked room or entrance if the venue has more than one space.

An invitation for the evening before

Use these ideas for your card or the message you send with it. Adapt longer examples into a short phrase for the form's limited text fields.

Warm and intimate

Before we say our vows, we would love to share a meal with you. Join Olivia and Alexander for dinner on the eve of their wedding.

From the hosts

Please join us for a rehearsal dinner honouring Olivia and Alexander, with good food, familiar stories and a toast to tomorrow.

Relaxed restaurant wording

The night before the big day: a table together and a chance to catch up. Come join us for dinner and wedding-eve company.

Help your hosts prepare

Give a reply deadline early enough to confirm numbers. Ask about dietary needs when collecting replies, and explain any dress expectation in a few words. A wedding website can hold travel information, but the card should still contain enough detail to get a guest to dinner. Print at actual size so the fine border keeps its intended proportions.

Keep the dinner invitation distinct

  • Use the meal's arrival time rather than the ceremony rehearsal time.
  • Include the restaurant room or booked private space.
  • Choose a reply deadline that suits the venue's final count.
  • Ask about dietary needs when guests respond.
  • Share longer wedding-day responsibilities outside this card.

A formal border for an unhurried meal

The fine border and place-setting illustration make this a quieter companion to the wedding invitation. Keep the personal line warm, and let the venue information do its practical work below. Before printing, check the thin border all the way around the PDF and confirm the card has not been scaled by the print dialogue. The finished size is 5 by 7 inches. Two-up A4 and US Letter versions place two cards on a landscape sheet, with guides for trimming. If the wedding website holds directions or travel advice, its printed address should be short enough to read and type comfortably.

Answers for the wedding-eve dinner organiser

Should I put both rehearsal and dinner times on this card?
The main time should describe the dinner guests are being invited to. If the rehearsal applies to only some recipients, send its schedule to them separately so the invitation does not imply that everyone must attend it.

Can someone other than the couple host?
Yes. The wording can come from family members or another host. Keep the couple's names prominent and use the organiser's reply contact if that person is confirming numbers with the restaurant.
